Meet The Multi-Talented Janie Kruse Garnett

Explore the vivacious world of Janie Kruse Garnett, where she deep dives into the art of fine jewelry, olfactive art, soft accessories and objet d’art. Janie would also be conducting Lenormand card readings, a Coco Chanel favorite.

The great granddaughter of an art collector and rumored spy, Janie Kruse Garnett grew up surrounded by incredible beauty, clever innovators, and tales of espionage and castaway rescues. Her mother, incapable of merely ignoring a weed, was often found gardening in evening attire. This instilled in Janie the belief that jewelry might as well be glamorous and stalwart, so she set out to create jewelry as strong as the woman who wears it.

With a background in Art History and jewelry design, Janie’s whimsical philosophy is rooted in classical architecture. First with jewelry, and slowly expanding to include all sorts of fine goods, Janie ethically creates pieces without sacrificing a refined aesthetic appeal.

Janie would also be conducting Lenormand card readings, a Coco Chanel favorite.

NYCJW EVENT: Multi-Sensory "Jewelry Hunt"

Designed to tease and ignite senses, this week-long installation is a multi-sensory Jewelry Hunt featuring designers Vitae Ascendere, John Brevard and Manya & Roumen.

The setting is an interactive "dinner party" completely void of food. Feast on magnificent fine jewelry and be rewarded with a journey through synesthesia. Savor the euphoric congregation of gems and scents, let the precious jewels dazzle you, as a multitude of smells and unique tastes entice your olfactive buds.

Join us for the OPENING RECEPTION on November 21st, 6-8pm and be one of the first few to relish in this unique sensorial experience.

Vitae Ascendere
The Vitae Ascendere collection is inspired by duality: mathematics and nature, technology and fragility, architecture and whimsy. Part of the collection recognizes the symmetry and historical interest of the Platonic Solids. The pieces begin with the linear symmetry of the form, then extend with playful curves. Enabled by 3D printing technology, the collection embodies elegance, intricacy and strength coupled with organic structures informed by mathematical perfection. Each piece is 3D printed in wax, then cast in 18k gold and hand finished by a craftsman in New York.

John Brevard
A multi-disciplinary artist that explores the realm of architecture, furniture, sculpture and jewelry, John Brevard designs are based on the principles of sacred geometry -- that there are certain geometric shapes and mathematical ratios that exist at all scales in the universe. As such, his jewelry creations tend to feature fractal patterns. In 2015, Brevard launched Thoscene, a patented customization platform that uses parametric modeling software built on astrologically-derived algorithms to create personalized, 3-D printed jewelry and accessories based on inputs such as time, date and location of birth.

Manya & Roumen
Manya & Roumen's pieces are homages to the animal kingdom. They slither, flutter, and perch on the wearer as totems of the strength, resilience, courage, perseverance, and wisdom accumulated by animals over the millions of years that they have roamed this earth. When designing a piece, Manya researches all details related to an animal from the animal's bone structure to social behavior. After drawing a rough sketch, Manya carves the animal from a block of wax, allowing the wax's malleable and forgiving nature to influence the outcome. Cast in precious metals and finished by hand, each intricate piece is handmade in New York’s Hudson Valley.

NYCJW EVENT: Burn Baby Burn - Experiencing the Art of Fine Jewelry with the Ritual of Smudging!

You are invited to an exclusive Jewelry Week event on November 20th 5-8 pm

Elements Studio NYC would like to invite consumers and members of the press to join us in an exclusive event to introduce the art of spirituality-infused fine jewelry. As a fine jewelry label created to combine spirituality with the luxury of fine jewelry, Elements Studio NYC encourages women to wear jewelry with mindfulness. Each purchase from Elements Studio NYC includes a pouch containing sage to burn, with a ritual card to create a positive intention for wearing the piece. They believe that women enjoy wearing their life stories and want to feel connected to their intentions through jewelry.

An intention-setting ritual of sage burning will be led by co-designer and co-owner Rachel Frank while Lori Berlinghof, co-designer and co-owner will be sharing creation stories about the collections and how they were designed and crafted with their own hands. The 5-10 minute ritual is designed to clear negative energy and promote positive mind/body/spirit healing through smudging. As space is limited, kindly let us know if you will join us. Prosecco will be served!

2 Hour Portraits by Carl Grauer

Mark a special moment in your life with an original all prima painting.  It is a great way to remember important moments, such as a wedding, engagement, milestone birthday, or as a gift.

A two-hour portrait sitting is where the subject is painted from life in a span of two hours with one ten-minute break.  From start to finish it takes about 3 hours of your time. It is, at the root, a practice of confident and creative strokes with a  rendered likeness at a quick pace.  Painting from life is a preferred method, as it will depict a more genuine and life-like quality that is not replicated with the flattening quality of a photograph.  It is recommended to have a live sitting for the two-hour portraits.*

The final painting is available immediately or after the painting has dried and sealed.

Sitting is complimentary, with option to purchase portrait for $500.

Available Sessions:

Two Hour Portraits™ 2013-present

An example of Carl Grauer's approach to portraiture is a series called Two Hour Portraits™. In this series, Carl paints subjects in a set amount of time. This practice focuses on mindful strokes laid with purpose and with energy. It is a goal to render form, depth, color and likeness within this set parameter of two hours.  More than a practice in painting, this series is a ritual involving the mutual gaze in a set window of time. It is also an ongoing portrait of a group. A group of the population with whom Carl has interacted; thus, as much as it is a portrait of a group, it is a portrait of him. This project began in 2012 and it continues to excite because of this element of time. It documents the subjects in specific amount of time and also his evolution as a painter.

Carl Grauer was born in Kansas, the youngest of four children from a conservative family. He had a strong aptitude for art at a young age, but had limited exposure to the arts in his small, rural community of 700 people. Grauer received a BA in Biology from the University of Kansas and an MFA in Medical and Biological Illustration from the University of Michigan. He eventually moved to New York City, where he found solace in the abundance of arts and culture there. Upon the sudden death of his brother in 2012, Grauer committed his life to the pursuit of his passion for portraiture and art making. He spent two years in London studying figurative and portrait painting and garnered success internationally, including being shortlisted for the 2015 Wells Art Contemporary Award in the UK and exhibiting with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London. Carl Grauer is currently based in Poughkeepsie, NY, in the beautiful Hudson Valley. He primarily works in oil, painting mostly portraits and figure based contemporary paintings.
